Strange Sports to Bet On

Posted on August 21, 2023 by Joel Sampson

Sports betting is a massive part of the gambling industry, and for good reason. You get to actively engage with your favorite sports and teams, getting in on the action of their matches or events.

Of course, the big ones are soccer, football, basketball, baseball, and horse racing. But what about some of the other, more unusual sports out there?

  1. Cow Chip Tossing

Yes, this is a real sport with a proper World Championship event that takes place in Beaver Oklahoma. It’s probably important to point out that this may be the only place where Cow Chip Tossing is played in a regulated manner, and you’re unlikely to find sports betting Australia sites that offer odds and bets on the sport. However, it’s good fun to get involved with and go watch if you’re in the area.

  1. Cornhole

The game is just like it sounds – you toss a bag of corn at a hole. These are fabric bags and with the corn they weigh 16oz. The hole is carved into a raised, slanted platform that’s called a dummy board. If you get the corn into the hole, you earn three points. If your bag lands on the board, you get one point. The team to reach 21 points first wins the match.

The sport became official in 2015, when the American Cornhole league was founded. You can follow the various tournaments around the country via their app and place your bets there too.

  1. Quidditch

Yes, the wizarding world sport made up by JK Rowling for the Harry Potter books has become a real sport. Us muggles may not be able to fly, and we don’t get a bewitched golden snitch to chase, but the game does involved broomsticks. The playing field has the same three hoops on either end that players must defend on their side and get the quaffle through on their opponent’s side.

To stick to the truth of the magical version of the sport, players must run around the field with a broomstick between their legs. The snitch in the muggle version is a tennis ball placed inside a long sock, which is attached to a match official who is dressed all in yellow. The seeker on each team must chase after this official and grab the snitch to win the game.

  1. Rock, Paper, Scissors

We’ve all used this game to make decisions like where we order dinner from or who gets to sit in the front passenger seat of the car. But did you know that there is a World Rock Paper Scissors Association and a World Championship event for what is now classed as a sport?

They’ve even created an entire betting system for the sport. You can bet on the outcome of each round, on the tournament overall and so many other factors within the game.

These sports may be a little left field, but they’re certainly fun to bet on if you’re looking for something different to try.
