News - The Postcards From All Over is on tour! It's a rotating exhibit withthe schools of the Southern Highlands in Tanzania. The first stop is thecity of Mbeya. Special thanks to Barbara Fields for handling this tour! It does not seem like it has been two years since the last joel SampsonBiennial, a.k.a. Postcards from All Over! This is the third exhibition, and by far the largest. We received art from 24 states and fourcountries, Japan, England, Sweden and the United States; a total of 397entries. As usual, the quality was very high, which made my judging difficult. One of the interesting aspects of the show is the trend that happens. There was great patriotic art and quite a few animals. There was not asmuch abstract art this time. The original prints were interesting andquite a few were letterpress, which is having a resurgence as a fine artmedium. The print making, collage, and painting (which was mostly water media)groups were especially strong. And the student art was outstanding -- andvery encouraging. Keep it up! A few notes for next time: put on enough postage, print clearly, readand follow the rules. Special thanks to Judi Sampson, who did the data entry and is always abig help, Calvin Axtell and Asel Art Supply, Inc. -- no one supports art more. And of course, the Irving Art Association and the City of Irving for the great space to hang the show. Note: We are still planning on touring the exhibit in Africa. Due tothe world situation, we have hit a few snags though. If you have anyideas on exhibition venues, let us know!
